5 reasons why families love glamping
Glamping is something that most people have heard of, and some consider it ‘posh camping’, but we know here at Secret Wood that it can often be so much more than that.
Essentially, glamping takes the benefits of traditional camping and combines them with the comfort and luxury found in staying in, for example, a holiday cottage or hotel. This means that you can enjoy the wilderness and serenity of the countryside, without a leaky tent or damp sleeping bags!
It’s for reasons like this that glamping has gained so much popularity in recent years. In this blog, we’ll be delving into just why so many families choose it as their perfect holiday destination, and showing you that it’s not just a fleeting trend.
1. Money matters
We all know how expensive holidays can be, it’s rarely ever as simple as just the accommodation cost.
For holidays abroad, you’ve got to account for flights, exchange rates, car hire/transportation as well as the costs of food and drink.
However, UK holidays aren’t actually much cheaper, especially if you want to go to places like Cornwall or Devon, where it’s been reported to now cost between £3,000 and £7,000 for just one week in the summer season.
Considering this, you may like the idea of going camping, where all you have to pay for is the fuel to get there, the camping site, and the local price of food and drink. However, as previously mentioned, camping isn’t always pretty – or relaxing. This is where glamping comes along, offering a more up-market holiday, whilst remaining affordable.
2. Living the life of luxury
When it comes to holidaying, the key is to be truly at peace. With glamping, guests can enjoy the luxury of a proper bed, wood-fired heating, camp kitchen and showering facilities, in addition to other added bonuses such as BBQs and hot-tubs like we have here at Secret Wood.
This atmosphere really does create a home-away-from-home feeling, enabling guests to enjoy their stay whilst also having the excitement of being somewhere new, trying new things and of course, being immersed in nature.
3. Enjoying your own space
Often situated in the quiet landscapes of the British countryside, like our 4 acre woodland on the edge of the Peak District, glamping enables guests to enjoy space both inside and outside their tent.
Compared to the chaos of hotels and resorts (and not at the same price as a private villa!), glamping is a truly calming, secluded experience. For families, this is particularly appealing for parents who are looking to take a break from their busy lives of children and career juggling!
4. Immersing yourself in the wilderness
Nature knows no boundaries, so whilst you can enjoy the quietness of glamping, you can also immerse yourself in the wilderness of the great outdoors, finding adventure and excitement at every step of the way.
At Secret Wood Glamping, the site is surrounded by countryside and views of Sheffield and Chesterfield, and is quite literally on the doorstep of the Peak District National Park. This access to wilderness enables guests to not only get out and about on a hike, but also explore the nearby villages and towns such as Millthorpe, Curbar, Baslow, Bakewell and Matlock.
This is something that many of our guests here at Secret Wood are delighted to find, especially those who come from big cities. For children, it’s a huge benefit to get an experience and appreciation for nature, which many parents seek to teach their kids. The luxury of your own woodland stream is an experience the kids won’t forget!
5. A chance to get creative
Being in nature without the usual distractions of phones, TV and video games, glamping presents families with the opportunity to get creative with crafts and activities.
For example, Secret Wood Glamping often has new experiences on offer, from wild foraging to candle, soap and lip-balm making. This makes for some real family bonding time, which we’ve all come to appreciate more since the pandemic!
