Situated on the outskirts of the Peak District, Holmesfield is an idyllic Derbyshire village that we’re very proud to call home here at Secret Wood Glamping.
A fairly rural region, Holmesfield is surrounded by several traditional pubs serving good-old pub-grub that many of our guests at Secret Wood Glamping absolutely love!

1. The Royal Oak, Millthorpe
The Royal Oak in Millthorpe, Dronfield is a local village pub just a 3 minute drive or 20 minute walk from the Secret Wood site. Serving premium artisan pies and dishes such as lamb shank, burgers, stew, quiche, soup, salads, and lots of cheese boards (which they also do to take-away), their menu is bespoke and changes with the season.Â

2. The Trickled Trout, Barlow
The Trickled Trout in Barlow, Dronfield is a fairly large pub that’s just a 6 minute drive from Secret Wood. A family run gastro pub and restaurant that’s won several local awards over the years, it makes for a great place to visit with the family.
The options are quite endless at the Trickled Trout, with a main menu that’s ‘deliciously Derbyshire’, a large pizza menu, a kids menu and a gluten-free menu, you’re sure to find something just right for you.

3. Hackney House Cafe, Barlow
The final of our 3 favourite places has to go to the Hackney House Cafe and Deli in Barlow, just an 8 minute drive from Secret Wood. ‘Serving hearty, homemade favourites’, Hackney House is a great place to grab lunch that uses local ingredients and is home cooked every day. What’s more, they also have a take-away menu!
Aside from the cafe, their gift shop makes for an ideal spot to get some souvenirs to take home, as a memento of your English holiday in the countryside!
