Things to do on your glamping trip

Camping (or rather glamping, like we prefer here at Secret Wood Glamping), is a great way to relax, unwind and take in a breath of fresh air.

With this relaxation comes the opportunity to learn new things that you may otherwise never have chance to experience. At Secret Wood Glamping, we offer a wide range of activities, ranging from crafts, foraging, cooking and exploring…

1. Arts and crafts

Crafts are always a fun way to bring people together, and it’s definitely not just for kids! Whether it’s pottery painting, card designing or soap making, people often find themselves at peace when doing crafts.

Some ideas to get you started:

Pack some art supplies!

A sketchbook, colouring pencils and paint set would be an ideal way to create a personal memory of your glamping trip.

Collect and craft:

Take home parts of the wilderness to use in an arts and crafts project.

Make some ‘fat cakes’:

Encourage the local birds to visit your site by making them ‘fat cakes’. We love this super easy and quick recipe on the National Trust website, which may be good if you’ve never made fat cakes for birds before.

Don’t fancy preparing it all yourself?

Often, glamping sites will have activities on offer that may include some crafts. For example, Secret Wood Glamping offer the following craft experiences, in conjunction with the Wild Harvest School

Candle, soap, bath bomb and lip-balm making:

At Secret Wood, we offer one-of-a-kind experiences for our guests. These make-and-take-away homemade candles, soaps and bath bombs provide not just a product you can use and take home with your, but also an unforgettable experience.

Leather journal making:

In creating your very own leather journal to take home with you, you’ll be able to carry a piece of your glamping holiday everywhere you go. There’s always something special about an item that holds memories…

Willow star and flower crown making:

Local to our site here in Holmesfield, you can also take a trip to a range of small businesses that offer crafts. Our recommendations would include:

2. Cooking and eating

The beauty of nature that many people don’t often realise is that you can find ingredients directly from your doorstep. What’s more, cooking food and eating round the campfire is something that feels just that extra special, especially when on holiday – whether it’s wild garlic, or marshmallows you bought from the shop!

Wild foraging:

Wild foraging is where you gather edible ingredients to make food, such as elderflowers, garlic, blackberries, chestnuts, sloes and even nettles. Although not a lot of people don’t know much about foraging, we love it at Secret Wood. It holds a special place in our hearts – it’s simply an experience that never fails to please. To find out more, we have a blog all about it here, or if you’d like some recipes there are some good ones here.

BBQs:

Glamping is the perfect place to enjoy a Great British BBQ. On a hot summer’s day, there really is no better way to bring families and friends together, and it makes it all the more special on holiday, too. To help our guests out at Secret Wood, we offer a ‘BBQ Pack’ including local produce from our very own farm, Unthank Farm.

Smores:

Grab the marshmallows, prepare the perfect smore and put on your PJs! This is an even greater way to spend your evening when the sky is clear and the stars are out, surrounded by the people you love.

3. Get out and about

Aside from walking, glamping sites often have lots of natural outdoor activities to get up to, enabling you to explore your surroundings and see some incredible natural sights.

Located near the Peak District, the Secret Wood Glamping site is fortunate to have some of the best views in the UK.

Activities could include:
