What to pack for a glamping holiday

A fairly recent phenomenon that’s taken the UK tourism industry by storm, glamping is a popular holiday option for families, couples and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Similar to camping, glamping offers people a way in which to reconnect with nature, try new things and explore the great outdoors. A ‘home away from home’, glamping is often seen as more comfortable and weather-friendly than camping – which is why many people prefer it!

At Secret Wood Glamping, we often find that our guests love this duality of luxury and outdoor adventure, but they can be unsure on what to bring. After all, if glamping offers a stove, bed and shower, where camping does not, how is it different to packing for a holiday home destination?

In this blog, we’ll cover everything we advise people what to pack for a glamping holiday, sharing our top tips and advice along the way…

1. A toasting pack for marshmallows

As with many glamping sites, the campfire here at Secret Wood Glamping really is a guest-favourite.

Sometimes there’s just nothing better than sitting around a warm fire with your family and friends, and what better way to improve the experience than with some toasted marshmallows? So, make sure to pack a toasting fork!

2. A good torch for spotting wildlife at night

Situated just outside the Peak District National Park, there are so many animals, birds and insects to spot at our glamping site at Secret Wood. This is also the case at many glamping spots, so often tucked away in the beautiful British countryside.

So, make sure you pack a good quality torch or head torch with you for your glamping trip, so you don’t miss out!

3. Wellies for splashing in the stream

You’re never too old to enjoy stamping your feet in a stream! Whatever the weather for your glamping trip, we would always urge you to bring your wellies or walking boots, not only for the stream nearby but also for your walking trails in and around Holmesfield and the wider Peak District.

4. A good book to snuggle up by the fire

Another favourite of ours, we would always recommend you to pack a good ol’ book to get stuck into during your glamping holiday. Whether you enjoy it by the campfire, suntanning in the hammock or tucked up in bed – that’s completely up to you!

5. A pack of cards for evening games

A firm family favourite – make sure you bring a pack of cards for your holiday! In an atmosphere disconnected from the digital world, but connected with nature, glamping is the ideal place to have some quality game-time with your loved ones.

6. Comfy slippers for inside

Slippers or fluffy socks are an essential for any holiday, but especially for glamping and camping. After a long day of enjoying your time in the sun, whether it be by walking, climbing or any other outdoor activity, you’ll definitely want to get home to camp and get in your comfies.

7. Towels and robes to wrap around you after enjoying time in the hot tub

Our hot tub here at Secret Wood is always a popular feature of our site, perfect for warm and cold weather. We always advise guests to bring their towels or dressing gowns/robes so that they wrap up after enjoying their time in the tub.

8. Cosy pyjamas

Just like with your fluffy slippers or socks, bringing a cosy set of pyjamas is essential to making your glamping holiday feel like a home-away-from-home.

9. A spotter sheet for identifying wildlife (or download the app Merlin)

Wildlife Watch have some great spotter sheets available to download or print, helping you to check your list off each time you spot an animal, bird or insect!

There is also an app to download called Merlin, which we love for identifying the birds we hear or see!

10. Tin foil for rustling up delicious campfire feasts

Now, it wouldn’t be a glamping holiday without a BBQ! Our BBQ and BBQ food packs are very popular here at Secret Wood (courtesy of our local, grass-fed farm, Unthank Hall). So, make sure to pack a roll of tin foil to help you in your BBQ antics…
