Your guide to Barlow Carnival 2024

It’s almost time for the Barlow Carnival!

Barlow, a neighbouring village to Secret Wood Glamping, is one of the closest villages to the little village of Holmesfield here in North Derbyshire.

Just an 8 minute drive away, our guests often visit Barlow for its country pubs, cafes and events – and its spectacular views over Derbyshire and the Peak District!

As a historic village, Barlow is also a place steeped in tradition, country culture and community. Each year, the Barlow Carnival takes place – a perfect family affair for the summertime.

Carnival Day: Saturday 17th August

Barlow Carnival is an annual 5 day event, taking place this year from the 14th August – 18th August.

With events taking pace across these 5 days, the highlight is always the Carnival day, which is Saturday. This is where a parade walks through the village with the Carnival Queen, floats, bands and fancy dress! This parade sets off at 1pm, and entrance to watch the parade is free-of-charge (although you can donate).

In addition to the parade on the Saturday, there is also the Flower Festival, Well Dressings and Fun Fair – perfect for kids. After the parade, people usually head over to ‘The Field’, where there’s more fun to be had with Vintage Cars and Bikes, a Fancy Dress Competition, Bar, Hog Roast, Street Food, Craft Stalls and even Splat a Rat.

As the day goes on, people can then ‘Rock the Carnival’ at the Recreation Ground , with live music, a bar and hot food served. However, tickets for this do have to be booked in advance!

Barlow Carnival from 14th – 18th August

Outside of the main Saturday event, there is also lots to be seen throughout the rest of the carnival week.

From Wednesday 14th through to the end of the week, you’ll find Well Dressings, the Flower Festival, the Scarecrow Competition, and the Fun Fair (14-18 August).

On Thursday 15th, it’s the Family Bingo and Quiz Night, and Friday 16th is when the Open Air Outdoor Cinema is hosted.

Then, after the Carnival Day on Saturday, Sunday is saved for the Crafts Market, Dog Show, Old Skool Sports Day and Petting Day from Heeley City Farm!
